Misty D. Mayes is an entrepreneur who has successfully launched ventures across the engineering, construction, healthcare, and the education sectors. Mayes is the founder and CEO of Management Solutions (MSLLC), a boutique consulting firm specializing in project strategy, delivery, and execution, serving customers in the government and private sector in the United States and Europe.

Michelle Banner, Project Controls Solutions (Global) Ltd Principal Project Controls Trainer, has more than 20 years’ experience in the infrastructure, nuclear, utilities, and various other industries. Misty D. Mayes is an entrepreneur who has successfully launched ventures across the engineering, construction, healthcare, and education sectors. Mayes is the founder and CEO of Management Solutions (MSLLC), a boutique consulting firm specializing in project strategy, delivery, and execution, serving customers in the government and private sector in the United States and Europe. In addition, Mayes founded and leads Project Controls Solutions, a global, best-in-class provider of project controls training programs. Over the past twenty years under her leadership, Management Solutions has consistently been recognized as one of the Inc 5000 Fastest Growing businesses, US Chamber’s Top 100 Small Businesses and was recognized by the Small Business Administration as the national Subcontractor of the Year. Mayes has received multiple entrepreneurship awards throughout her career but is most proud of her work advocating for other female entrepreneurs through her leadership in WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy), and her lifelong commitment to education and economic empowerment in East Tennessee.
Additional Professional Highlights
Served as the Program Manager for various USACE Headquarter, Division and District initiatives. Portfolio Manager for various DOE (Office of Science, NNSA and EM) programs/projects. Account Manager for all Healthcare projects within the portfolio for state and commercial clients and was Executive Vice President for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and was responsible for Project Management/Controls.
Community Outreach Highlights
Throughout her career, Mayes has worked tirelessly to support female entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and education in East Tennessee and beyond. Currently she helps lead:
East Tennessee Economic Council (ETEC) – Currently serves on the Board of Directors. ETEC is s an independent, regional, non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting the federal government’s missions in Oak Ridge as well as encouraging new opportunities to fully utilize the highly skilled talent, cutting-edge technologies and unique facilities that make up the federal reservation.
University of Tennessee College of Engineering – Has served as chair of the college’s Board of Advisors, since the fall of 2018. Having served for two years as the Board’s first female chair, Misty has also co-chaired a new program that brings together female engineering students, female engineering faculty members and female engineers from industry to help the university attract and retain top female students and faculty.
Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) – Serves on the Board of Directors as well as chairing WIPP’s Leadership Advisory Council. Additionally, she is the co-chair of WIPP’s healthcare committee that is on the forefront of working with the federal administration on trying to make sure all women business owners have a voice in the changes being made to the Affordable Care Act. She has been fortunate to be invited to the White House and was able to testify before Congress on various topics impacting woman owned businesses as well as entrepreneurship.
Webb School of Knoxville – Serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees, since the fall of 2020, and is the Board’s first female chair. Webb is PreK-12, private independent day school and is ranked among the top in the southeast. This role has enabled Mayes to focus on creating opportunities for greater visibility into STEM and robotics programs as well as being involved in the design and delivery of entrepreneurial curriculum.
Knoxville Chamber of Commerce – Serves on the Board of Directors as well as the Council for state business. In this role she continues to advocate for an entrepreneurial and robust business climate for Knoxville to enable businesses to locate, operate, and expand in the East Tennessee region.
Restoration House of East Tennessee – On the Board since 2010, and she became the chair in 2014, Misty and her team continue to volunteer their talents and time to this worthwhile organization that provides temporary housing and a hand-up to single mothers and their children.
Personal History
Misty received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, from the University of Tennessee. Misty is a member of the Project Management Institute and is a certified Project Management Professional. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma professional and a Certified Change Management Professional. Misty holds an active DOE Q clearance. Mayes lives in Knoxville with Sam, her husband of over 30 years, where they raised three sons and continue to enjoy hiking in the Smoky Mountains, biking, golf, and the natural beauty of the region.
Michelle Banner
MACostE, MAPM Principal Project Controls Trainer
Michelle Banner, Project Controls Solutions (Global) Ltd Principal Project Controls Trainer, has more than 20 years’ experience in the infrastructure, nuclear, utilities, and various other industries. She is recognized as a technical expert in her specialism of Planning and Risk along with having a substantial background in cost and estimating.
Ms. Banner is experienced in delivering EPC, R&D and Engineering contracts for infrastructure, utilities and nuclear. She is experienced in all aspects of project delivery from bidding through to commissioning and close out.
As a recognized expert, Ms. Banner has written and delivered training both internally and for external clients on topics such as Earned Value Management, Schedule Management and Resource Management. She has also had a leading involvement in the development of end point assessment material for TASC (assessing Project Controls competence up to degree level).
As the Principal Project Controls Trainer for Project Controls Solutions, she is responsible for creating and delivering Project Controls training to cohorts ensuring they are upskilled in every Project Control discipline area, their skills are enhanced in understanding the whole project delivery lifecycle and their behavioral skills are improved.
Professional Highlights
Served as the Planning Manager for Jacobs (previously Wood) – Nuclear Division. Ms. Banner was responsible for the functional leadership and capability growth of the Planning and Risk Team (+20 individuals) both in the UK and abroad.
Community Outreach Highlights
ACostE – Ms. Banner is an active member of the ACostE and has delivered a series of webinars during 2020 on several project controls topics.
ACostE represents the professional interests of those with responsibility, at all levels, for the prediction, planning and control of resources and cost for activities that involve engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) – Ms. Banner is involved in the development of Project Controls Apprenticeship standards and vocational qualifications through the employer led trailblazer group.
ECTIB is the skills, standards, and qualifications body for the development of the engineering construction workforce of Great Britain.
Personal History
Michelle has a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, is a PMO Practitioner and has completed Association for Project Management (APM) Risk Management (Level 1 and Level 2). As an industry expert, Ms. Banner most recently presented at the Project Controls Expo in 2020 on “Humans vs Machines” exploring the perception of Project Controls as more data driven technology emerges.
Kevin Hendricks
Program Manager
Kevin Hendricks has decades of experience in strategic leadership, government, and administration. Prior to joining Project Controls Solutions, Hendricks served as Associate Dean for distance learning and Director of the Army Advisory Group at the Air University. In addition, he was Academic Chair at the War College and professor in the Department of Strategy. Hendricks’ leadership experience includes positions as Director, Strategic and Congressional Legislative Affairs, and Commander of US African Command (AFRICOM) and US European Command (EUCOM). Additionally, he served as principal trainer, educator, and curriculum development expert for the Commanding General and Governor’s office in training and mobilization of 13,000+ soldiers and leaders. He has a B.S. from the United States Military Academy as well as master’s degrees in Strategic Studies, International Strategic Studies, Operational Military Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, and an honorary degree in leadership and education from Kansas University.
Brian Manus
Project Controls Trainer
Brian Manus is an experienced project manager and leader who has built and delivered innovative training training and readiness programs globally. Prior to joining Project Controls Solutions, Manus had a distinguished career in the US Army, where he served as Director of Academic Operations at the US Army Command & General Staff School; Facilities and Construction Chief in a Field Army engineering directorate; and Area Officer-in-Charge for the US Army Corps of Engineers in northern Afghanistan. Manus’ teams managed over 100 construction projects valued at over $700M with more than 60 military and civilian personnel, 87 local national engineers and dozens of contractors.

Throughout her thirty-year career in project controls, Management Solutions’ founder Misty Mayes has been passionate about supporting the next generation of project control professionals, especially those from historically under-represented backgrounds. Project Controls Solutions was founded to expand access to the project controls profession. Our training programs create a pathway for aspiring project controls professionals to develop the skills and capabilities they need to build a meaningful career in a fast-growing profession.
Expanding Opportunities for Women
After building Management Solutions into a preeminent project management consultancy, Misty has devoted significant time and resources to expanding opportunities for women and under-represented groups in project controls and beyond through her advocacy for female entrepreneurs on Capitol Hill and her championing of both secondary and post-secondary education throughout Greater Appalachia.
